Hi everyone! My name is Alysia and I am the facilitator for this TeachAde group. We hope to get lots of great information to help those thinkig about National Board Certification, or for educators going through the process now. Please let me know if you are looking for any specific resources. Thanks. :)

Hi, I would like to get a National Board Certification, but I am not sure of the benefits of it. I currently have a California credential. How do I pursue the national certification?

Hi there -- I apologize for the delayed response. There are several sites to check out to discover the process and timeline for getting your National Boards.

Here are a few:
Candidates Guide: http://www.nea.org/assets/docs/NBC_Candidate_Guide-09.pdf

Report: Is National Board Certification an Effective Signal of Teacher Quality?
http://www.cna.org/documents/cavaluzzostudy.pdf

As for the benefit, it seems to me that as more districts begin assigning salaries and compensation based on National Board Certification (as well as level of education and years of experience), it will soon be a necessity, rather than a "nice to have."

Feel free to contact Cindy Martin in this Group by clicking her avatar in the Group Member box below. She has her NBC in Early Childhood and I'm sure she can answer any of your questions.

:)
