The New School Year

Since I work in an out-of-district placement, what I know about inclusive classrooms is what I've heard by word-of-mouth. What I've heard, mind you, is not good. Apparently, teachers are rarely notified if one of their new students have an IEP. In turn, they learn by accident and then both the teacher and student are left at a disadvantage. Does anyone have any experiences similar to this? Anyone with a good experience? I can't imagine having a student in my class and not being told that he or she is classified and needs special modifications.
