What has been the biggest challenge for you as a new teacher?

Hi Antwon. Kinda lonely in here so far.

I am thrilled that there is an area for these kinds of discussions. I took an on-line class through USD, and the blog sites and discussion boards were a huge help.

As a new teacher the most difficult aspects of the job are all the little things you are never taught during student teaching. For instance, I am teaching in an overflow class and on any given day I might be interupted by the arrival of a new student. I also need to deal with the disruptions of my current students leaving to return to their home schools. Although all teachers deal with this I have already had 12 students leave my class and 15 arrive through out my tenure in the class.

This creates an interesting dynamic for my students to have to deal with. Did I mention that I am a first grade teacher. Six year olds have a difficult enough time dealing with the social aspects of making new friends with out the added anxiety of whether or not that friend will be here tommorrow.

This is a great resource. I took several online classes during my graduate program and found it very convenient, user friendly and rewarding. As a new teacher, I have been faced with many challenges this year. Some which include, getting to know my colleagues, my students the parents and basically becoming familiar with my school and classroom. Also planning effectively, establishing routine and classroom procedures and so forth. One of the biggest challenges that I have been faced with through out this year is attempting to establish a classroom environment that is conducive to all of my students learning. In other words, establishing a learning environment where all of my students are actively engaged in their learning while at the same time attempting to meet their learning needs by delivering an instruction through various strategies and various scaffolding techniques. I have a huge passion for education. Therefore, I agree that providing a differentiated instruction is valuable and non-negotiable. But, it is by far one of the most difficult aspects of education.

Currently, I teach kindergarten. I am very fortunate to have had such a great group of students. In addition, I have a great grade level team who has and continues to provide me with the support that I need in order to be successful.
