First of all, a big thank you to Dave for getting this started. This is outstanding. What's even better is that you don't have to wait months or weeks to have a meeting in order to get great ideas. I am thinking of taking Dave's idea and expanding it district-wide. I don't know who contributed the first two resources--the conferring chart and the narrative checklist--but they are excellent. I especially liked the section of the conferrng chart that allows you to record what phase of the writing process you are conferring to the child about. Again, thank you to Dave and to all the outstanding teachers at MPE.

I am really happy to have the Lucy Calkins series to walk me through the mini-lessons with examples, ideas, & even the language. I'm finding, however, that I need to break some of her lessons in half or even thirds. Is it just me or is anyone else finding them to be very complicated and simply too dense for a 10 min. mini-lesson?
