On Wednesday, Feb 18th, 2009, teachers in the Volusia County School District, Florida, wore bright blue Band-Aids to demonstrate that cuts to the school system’s budget will hurt teachers and students. Please help me understand why it is okay for our nation to go into debt over a war, but it is not appropriate to go into debt over education? Our children, as adults, will have the task of cleaning up the mess our country has gotten itself into. Shouldn’t we invest in them and give them the tools and knowledge to be able to undertake this task effectively? We should be planning new Civics and History requirements for high school students to help them correct and avoid repeating the mistakes of this generation.
Write your congressional representative and tell them to stop cutting school budgets!
